The training method focuses on enhancing the brain's awareness of its own operations, particularly in the limbic system which is responsible for managing emotions like fear, and functions such as sleep and attention. By providing precise feedback, it leverages the brain's inherent adaptability to new data. The NeurOptimal® Neurofeedback system plays a key role in this process by informing the brain about its own activity, leading the brain to self-adjust and optimize its responses. For instance, the brain might recognize an unnecessary stress reaction while in a safe environment and consequently alter its reaction, aiming for greater efficiency and appropriateness in its responses.
NeurOptimal® neurofeedback training can offer support to those dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD by promoting a sense of calm and relaxation and helping to manage stress. Users have noted feeling less reactive and more at ease when responding to life’s challenges. Improved quality of sleep has also been reported. NeurOptimal is a wonderful adjuctive training to combine with therapy.
If you take medication, write down the medication and your dosage. Needing less medication as you go through your training is an important sign of shifts. Of course, your physician will always supervise adjustments to prescribed medications. Please do not do this on your own.
Many clients, both children and adults, are on medications when they start neurofeedback. It's generally not a problem. Neurofeedback is learning. Your brain still learns when you're on medications.
NeurOptimal® is so safe that Sessions can even be run twice per day if you want. Because it doesn’t push the brain, NeurOptimal® cannot hurt you nor create side effects.
Training with NeurOptimal® is actually a learning task. You get results because your brain is actively learning, even if you are not doing the learning consciously. So much like reading, once your brain knows how to read, it can’t “not know”. Your brain doesn’t forget. It may get rusty, and fall back into bad habits, especially when there are new or increased stressors.
However, your brain is living tissue and you can— and will— get "knocked off" by stress, toxins, poor nutrition illness, and environmental stressors. When you notice that you are less resilient, more irritable or distracted it may be time for a few booster sessions. A "neurofeedback trained brain" is quickly able to utilize the information NeurOptimal® is offering.
The length of time it takes to see results from counseling sessions with Tania Mustain varies depending on the individual and the issues being addressed. Some clients may see improvements after just a few sessions, while others may require longer-term sessions.

Tania cannot know to what degree symptoms can be alleviated, as everyone's brain is unique and will respond differently. A smaller percentage of clients experience little to no improvement especially with a session count of less than 10.
